Who are we

We are an independent communication design studio with a compelling vision for the future.Our team partners our strategic thinking and is always free to tell us when we are going wrong. We make mistakes to learn, we choose to instill empathy in our work and hailing from diverse backgrounds equip us to be stronger than yesterday.

Founder, DirectorSANJAY JOSHI

A staunch perfectionist, he believes that in order to create, inspire or dazzle the world all we need is a brilliant out-of-the-box idea. He was relentlessly looking for that one idea that would kick him out of the bed and make him run to work with a renewed zeal. And he ultimately found it in 2002 when he founded Monkey Wrench.

Creativity cannot be acquired at a fancy institution with a flawless degree.

'I believe in order to create, inspire or dazzle the world; all we need is an idea. Once you’ve cracked an idea and figured out who will laugh or relate to it the most, that’s marketing for you. These things cannot be learnt in textbooks,' says Joshi.

Everyone's big daddy at Monkey Wrench, Shah has always been fascinated by creative work - be it a beautiful illustration or an eye-catching line - it’s the love for pixels and words that drove him to create Monkey Wrench solely dedicated to a bunch of people who share the same love as him.

'On a regular Sunday afternoon, while chilling and debating over a good name for our graphic design studio, a hard nut fell on my head and cracked an idea open. I told Joshi excitedly, ‘I have a name.’ And that’s how our baby, Monkey Wrench let out its first cackle,' says Shah.

Journeying through Contract Advertising, Bates, Grey Worldwide, Capgemini and owning several awards, including a Cannes Lion - Ashis feels that observation & travel has paved the way for him - apart from cooking up a storm in his kitchen with his love for fresh ingredients and organic food!

Right from the days of art college, Ashis carries a strong belief that art & advertising bear a strong connect. If only people could choose to step out of their air-conditioned homes & offices and take a bus ride, they would probably grasp this connection even better.

After working with national & global brands spanning across various industries like Louis Philippe, Turtle, Grameenphone, HSBC, Godrej, Coca Cola, ITC, Kerala Ayurveda, ABP, Marico, Dell, Cisco, The Leela Palace, Amante, Aegon Religare, Visa India, Cadbury, Spice Telecom, and Infosys - Ashis believes that human insight defines excellence in communication.

With an unbridled appetite for wanderlust, Kusumanjan has always believed in travelling the uncharted roads. It's no wonder then that after graduating from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata with a degree in commerce, he decided to work with Teach for India - where he learned how communication and marketing can bring about a positive impact in the lives of people. This, in turn, led him to the corridors of Response India and JWT, India - where, for the last eight years, he has been working with clients like Tata, Linc, Exide, Joy and more.

There's no shortcut to success. Hard work and belief in one's abilities can move mountains - that's what Tamal lives by.

An ardent believer that brand-building in the post-digital world is about impactful, insight-driven brand communications and delightful, user-centric digital experiences. He is particularly excited by what’s possible when agencies and brands act like tech startups. He swears by the storytelling potential of placing innovation and data at the centre of brand campaigns.

Having done that over 10 years with a gamut of agencies like— Saatchi and Saatchi, Genesis, Blue Stockings Communications and more. He has added value to a wide range of sectors with brands like- ITC, Dabur India, Kent, Tata Metaliks, Zee Entertainment Network, Amway, GKB Opticals, Times of India, Govt of W.B and more.


An obsessive story-teller, an astute observer, an avid reader and an unabashed cinephile- these are just a few of the many ingredients of Suchetana.The often unacknowledged affectionate relationship between man and merchandise is an area of her fascination that she always wants to explore and spin narratives about, feeding her hopelessly hopeful romantic self. So, she gets immense joy from being a copywriter whose mind doesn’t need air-tickets, visas and permits to travel places.

In less than five years, her works found recognition on several prestigious platforms like Lürzer's Archive, Ads of the World and Desi Creative. She has worked for several renowned national and regional brands like Times of India, Taj Bengal, Joy Cosmetics, Linc Pens, Bandhan Bank, Vivo Mobile, West Bengal Tourism, Senco Gold & Diamonds and many more.


An English literature graduate, Ishita's love for advertising started at a very young age. Growing up in the golden years of 90's advertising, she knew every jingle by heart. That's why she wasted no time after her graduation and joined the Integrated Marketing program at Xavier's. Learning tricks of the trade from industry professionals at the top of their game, she showed some potential. Quickly after, she was hired as an intern at Rediffusion. Since then, it has been a journey that only deepened her passion for the craft. Now one of our creative monkeys, we can't wait to set brand new milestones of creativity together.
